Would this work?

ThyFeared

Would this PSU: Be able to power this Disc Drive 2j28ba9.jpg

Edit: All I know is this is a Phillips (don't know the product) I just know it's quite old, around 2005-2006

Think your images are slightly messed up. The connector on the drive on the right is a molex connector and the long connector full of pins is an IDE connector. The molex power is fine but you'd need to find some way to connect the IDE connector to your motherboard to do anything with it.

That disk drive takes simple old molex power, any psu will work. IDE connector to mobo will be problematic, there are adapters.

It's an old IDE connector, and molex for power.

you didn't mention what PSU you have, but any PSU with an available molex connector can power it, though that doesn't matter if your motherboard doesn't have an IDE connector or you don't have a sata to IDE connector.

I just need it to install Windows 8 should the molex power work fine?

As long as you have a Molex power connector on your power supply, Since you have a Molex power connector, all you need is an IDE port on the motherboard (as well as a cable), it should work fine as long as there is nothing actually wrong with the drive.

Would just connecting the Molex power work just to install Windows 8?

It would but you still need to attach a data cable, that drive uses the older IDE style connector, Unless you're installing W8 on an older system that has IDE connectors on the board you won't be able to use it even if you can power it.

I have found an old external dvd-reader so I think I'm saved from buying another dvd-drive

Why do you want to install Windows 8 on the drive? Do you know the capacity of the drive? What RPM it spins at?

It will probably be slower, but it will work. :)
