I've heard a lot of ppl say different things about this, some say cleaning a display with water will break it others say it'll be fine, so which is right???

Thanks in advance!

What @Oshino Shinobu said + a microfiber cloth

If you don't smoke, most likely a dry microfiber cloth is enough.

I use 50% white cleaning vinegar mixed with 50% distilled water in a small spray bottle. 2 or 3 sprays onto a clean microfiber cloth and its streak free everytime.

Some screens will have some filters applied on them (thin plastic foils).

The alcohols in some wipes can damage that thin foil and cause permanent damage.

Microfiber cloth and clean water should be enough.  In general, paper / microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol should be fine, as isopropyl alcohol is a mild solvent and generally doesn't attack plastics, but if you're not sure, just use water.

Water should be fine (just not too much), it's only a problem when you use some other liquids like alchohol and such.

A matte display is just a soft plastic, so anything that can affect plastic will do the same to them
