Arrow keys give very limited control in some racing games.

I am looking for alternatives.

 

WHat are your experiences? how many controllers have you tried? What's your conclusions?

Is arrow keys ok for Dirt 3 and other racing games and I should just try to get better?

 

 

Arrow keys are horrible when there is no adaptive sensivity or some shit for them.

gamepad is the best in my opinion, its easy to get into and cheap, steering wheels are more real however they are a lot harder to learn and have a lot worse bang for buck.

Dirt 3 really isn't the sort of game you should use a wheel with. The physics of the game do not do them justice. A gamepad is best for any of the Dirt games.

A nice gamepad is literally the cheapest and best solution for most racing games. I've had my Xbox 360 wired controller for 6 years, and it is still running strong. I would say a racing wheel does work well, but most people don't have the room, or time to make a proper setup.

It works well in dirt showdown but it seems to be limiting in dirt 3 and other racing games

I picked up dirt 3 recently on sale and plan to use my ps3 controller looks like an awesome game, but waiting for them to remove games for windows live, it's a joke!
