Just wondering what you guys think about the z97 boards. I am looking at changing out the asus z87 gryphon to the asus z97 gryphon in my planned build. 

Should I wait or should I just get the z87 board?

If you want SATA Express, M.2, and Haswell Refresh/Broadwell support right out of the gate, you might want to go with a Z97 board.

When SSD's start to come with SATA express connectors, they will be a ton faster. M.2 is basically a mini-PCI-E SSD (like what are used sometimes in laptops), and it will also be 10Gbps capable, like SATA express.

 

If you want breakneck speeds with an SSD for games and whatknot, I guess it would be worth it.

Will Haswell chips from the z87 generation still work just as fine in it? I need an ATX mobo for my next upgrade and I can't see myself needing anything more then my 4770k

I believe so. Linus did a TechQuickie video on Z97 boards recently, and I think he covered this.

well, ive you where to use a i7 4770k or a i5 4670k on the z87 you have to upgrade your mobo with the cpu, but on the z97 you could easily upgrade o next gen cpus when the k ones come out

I think the styling of both Asus and Gigabyte boards is nicer on z97. I personally have a Z87 Pro and I was thinking of upgrading for the styling alone and passing my old board down to a friend. The gold accent on the Z97 Asus line is so much more subtle and classy. Then Gigabyte offering black versions of a couple of their boards. One thing that got me though was no ROG mini itx I have been waiting to build a mini itx. I am hoping when the processors launch in June they release a board.

The best bang for buck z97 board is just the same (just z97 chipset) as the z87 chipset, the Asrock Z97 Extreme4 (it seriously is).
