To be compatible the new sticks should ideally have the same speed, latency etc of the old RAM. Depending on the CPU, it may also not be able to clock the RAM as high if there are 4 sticks, so you could try if it boots with XMP disabled or set to a lower speed.

You cant tape it, might as well stick with 2 sticks of ram.
