I haven’t seen a power brick that is capable of more than 100w and figured I’d show it over here as this is a first for me. If this doesn’t show as a link just put that in on Amazon.

well if its for a laptop id assume its not fake or anything as it needs enough power to supply the laptop and the phones or whatever you have plugged in

if the mac can pull 65-85w to 100 max for a charger out of usb

this should have the same premise

Part of what was making me question it was that most bricks max out at 100w and say 100w max for a single port or split over a few ports. But I’ll keep an eye on it and might have to try it.

Reading reviews, it gets close to advertising. But I would have grain of salt at hand. First review states that it's max 200W at any time, and max what is rated per plug.

GaN transistors are a relatively new technology, which allow a similar power density in a much smaller package. The claims might very well be true. However, do note that as it's the new hot technology in this area, unscrupulous vendors are also slapping it on unrelated stuff to sell it more easily.

Well it's not "more than 100W".
It can theorically output 200W, but not from a single USB port.

Spoiler

image.png.42daf7d1f3d69297a3cc2b9b24d65739.png

Watts are calculated through V * A (well, technically it's V * A * cos(φ). Just V*I is actually apparent power(S) and the unit for that is VA, not real power(watts). It's likely a bit lower than that, but not by much, the standards for it is something like 80~85% PF is acceptable and anything lower isn't. (PF = P / S)

But if we don't care about that and just assume the PF (power factor) is 100% due to reactive power (Q) being completely nullified (it never is when capacitors and coils are involved), then S(VA) = P(W) and 20V*5A = 100W.

Because there's two ports capable of outputting 5 amp at 20 volts, they get to claim 200W even if it's really 100W each.

As for whether it's legit... I would need to see the internals. But like the others have said, reviews would suggest that it is. Worst case, you buy it, use something like a blueplanet wattmeter and tell us if it really pulls 100W from a single power. Then get a refund on amazon if it wasn't.

But if this thing can pull 10 amps from the wall without burning up, I'd be impressed.

So if anyone is still following this thread, I got it the next day after posting and can confirm the charger is great and has no issues with keeping my laptop charged which requires at least 100w charging to maintain battery during use. Also, it comes with a wall plug adapter that slides overtop the built in plug for additional distance. It is solid though, feels heavy AF, I haven't weighed it though. So far good product, just quite expensive but at the end of the day the idea is you get what you pay for, just make sure it isnt snake oil. 😛

What's funny is that Lenovo is still shipping the old USB-like-connector based chargers with their Thinkpads, makes you wonder if they have a large stock of parts to get through?

Not sure how to interpret "you get what you pay for" in this situation.

Of the three notable charger alternative brands;

Anker's highest is 150W at $105

Baseus' highest is 100W at $60

UGreen's highest is 200W at $170

So... your 200W at $130 is very suspicious.

You're kind of missing the point of what the OP is trying to talk about.

It's about breaking high-wattage in a small form factor.

Agreed, that is why I was concerned at first. So far the brick is working amazing and has not had any issues. The brick doesnt heat up too much when charging which was one of the first things I was concerned about. This week since both my work and daily laptop require 100W charging I am going to test out the chargers ability to handle both laptops and see how that goes. Side note: One of the issues I had when trying to find a brick that would work is that many of the options I was finding didnt specify that the port or ports actually supported 100W out a single port, many of them including Ankers, if im remembering correctly, did not say they went up to 100w for a single port but only showed the capabilities when spread out of a few devices. Checking while writing this I found a few like this, but I also found an example that does show 100W such as the Anker Nano ll.

As far as the "you get what you pay for", I think I understand your point as there are other options both higher and lower priced and this feels odd. So I am proceeding cautiously and sceptically. The quote though, yea not necessarily the best option for words. I have rewrote this paragraph 5 times now for the same reason. I am very good at getting side tracked and sometimes I use stuff like that to force shut down my brain to stop otherwise I ramble.
