Old PC projects

Hello. Im not sure if this the correct place to post this, if its not please tell me where should i post it. 

 

I have an old pc that my uncle gave me to mess around with. I already have a main pc with an R5 5600g and a GTX 1660 SUPER that is enough for what i use it for. I want to do something with this old pc that might be usefull or entertaining or simply a interesting experiment. It has an i5-6400, a h110 motherboard, 8gb 2133mhz ram (2×4gb) and a 250gb kingston sata ssd. What can i do with this pc?

this is great for setting up a NAS

buy some hard drive and setup TrueNAS on it and have a safe and reliable personal vault for all of your personal data that you can simply access over the network

That sound good. I have a pile of hard drives from old pcs i could use. I think i have like two 500gb drives and a couple 250gb drives. Can i use a NAS as a steam library? Or just as a private cloud service type of thing?

Both really but steam library I wouldnt neccesarily recommend

you can technically use it as a steam library but it will be a really bad experience because of both latency and access speed over the network which depends on your router

if it has 2 gigabit port its probably fine but if there are 100 Mb then its a big no no

also make sure both of them are connected with ethernet not wifi
