if you want better cleaning solutions than paper towels,  see isopropyl alcohol (either 97%+ or electronics grade) or the hand sanitizer variety that's around 70% isopropyl alcohol, or acetone (nail polish remover)

Paper Towel or Microfiber stuffs, along with some isopropyl alcohol.

 

I usually wipe them with dry paper towel first to get most of the goop.

Then I detail work using paper towel wetted with isopropyl alcohol, wipe clean with dry ones if needed, then let dry a bit (in case some liquid stuck inbetween gaps) before putting new paste.

 

If you use a high concentration of Isopropyl Alcohol, like @mariushm said, it dries quite fast.
