gnome hates me. i dont know how i do it, but i cant run fedora for longer than a week before i break the UI.

also.. linux distro choice is about as personal as the color of your shirt. you could make the exact same post about every semi-popular linux distro out there.

as for something not opinion based.. the documentation that exists around ubuntu and it's derivatives, and the arch wiki.

this is also an incredible pet peeve.. but i just *hate* the software manager name. they could have called it anything, but they went for "did not finish".

Subjective depending on use case. Never put anything in life on a pedestal lest one day it turn on you. Use whatever OS works best for your use case.

Linux in general hates me. I'm just the master of destroying bootloaders because I dared to say "yes, install updates".

Incredibly real, was the coolest shit when I was like 14 but has pushed me to the point of needing minimalism

I agree and not to mention the great security. I just always wonder why its never called a beginner distro its not hard to use.

Ubuntu has every driver under the sun and apt is the simplest shit in the world to use and understand for beginners just because it uses simple words. Source: tried to install Ubuntu and Fedora when I was 12 years old and guess which I stuck with LOL

Linux is and really always should be what you make of it. You can get the benefits, security, and stability of any distro you want if you're willing to make it what you want. Linux is just the common denominator, it's fun to make things with it and build it from scratch when you understand it enough to move forward with it. Arch wiki has taught me so much. in the 3 or 4 weeks since installing Arch linux I've learned more about Linux than I have in 8 years.

TL;DR fuck all of you install gentoo then we can talk about linux distros /j

Swap it out then

I did yeah, it’s called Debian lol. I am not a big fan of swapping out default DEs off distros. It always breaks shit in my own experience, it’s much easier to just use a distro that uses whatever DE you like with whatever features you want.

I got nothing against Fedora other than gnome and dnf.

any distros can do that. fedora, debian, ubuntu ect. many users have more than one DE installed on their distro as a matter of fact and there are many distros that do not ship with a DE at all(arch, gentoo, most server editions of ubuntu, fedora, debian ect) which means "swapping" in a DE is actually required if you want a gui.

I install DE for my servers all the time as a back up to ssh when i just need to hook it into a monitor and get a mouse and keyboard plug into it for some chrome browsing or whatever. i typically install XFCE on my ubuntu server edition. i really cant see any differences from preinstalled DE except less bloatware and more vanila themes/looks.

Mixing DEs tends to create a mess of configuration that's really not fun to deal with. Not a dead end, but it is extremely painful to enthusiasts.

true but there are ways around it and if you completely remove one and install the other, there wont be conflicts.

I know that fedora has its issues (dnf primarily) but I love it. 6.1.3 kernel, gnome 43, and its the most stable distro??? What more could you want?

I love Fedora too.  I was originally turned off by GNOME's customization options out of the box.  However, GNOME Tweaks, and GNOME Extensions are great resources for ricing up your desktop.

What issues are you referring to with dnf specifically?

From what I've heard, the default mirrors/servers/repositories for updates are not automatically set to the fastest.  i don't think they're set to the fastest in Ubuntu either though, it's a lot least easier to change right away.  It's in your face.  You can't miss it.  In Fedora you have open a .file (dot file) with nano (or other text editor of choice) and add a few lines to allow simultaneous downloads and to automatically select the fastest mirror every time.
