I'm currently running on a Asus Zephyrus G15 2021 model (RTX 3060) with 40GB ram.

Along side I've connected it to an external monitor via HDMI. G32QC (Gigabyte 32 inch)

I'm thinking of upgrade my external display to a ASUS ProArt PA348CGV. I was just wondering if there'll be any bottleneck?

For context:

I play games but nothing demanding mainly league of legends and valorant. even then i usually downscale it to a 1080p borderless (which works out to be around 27 inch on my 32 inch monitor) just because it's way too big. (also another factor on why I would like to hit the 144-165hz threshold)

But I'm also a photographer/videographer. I do a lot of batch editing and I'm getting tired of looking over on my laptop screen to make changes (reason being it's far more colour accurate and has been calibrated)

"why don't you want a 27 inch?" i find that outside of gaming. the 32 inch is perfect. for split screening to work spaces while editing. it's far more effective.

another side note: I've came from a 29 inch IPS monitor from dell and absolutely miss ultrawide.

Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated!

hi!

What are your thoughts on this: http://www.displaywars.com/32-inch-16x9-vs-34-inch-21x9

That's 32" at 16:9 vs. 34" at 21:9 (same ratio you had on your 29" screen).

From 34" ultrawide, going down to 16:9, it's exactly like 27" 16:9.

If you're willing to spend more, there are also some 38" Monitors with 3840x1600 resolution. Very rare ratio, but seems like a great sweetspot.

Thanks for your reply,

I absolutely don’t mind the 34 inch. It’s the dimensions of the ProArt I’ve listed in my writing above.

just was wondering if the laptop would be able to display that semi 4k at 144-165hz?

Yup, should be zero issue. Displayport 1.4 can do that, so you can connect with a USB-C Cable -> Displayport. Maybe a Docking station, or the Monitor already has a USB-C Cable with Power Delivery.

Not sure, if HDMI 2.0b can do that, but with Displayport it should be no problem.

Ahh thanks! You’d reckon the mobile rtx 3060 along with the r9 5900hs wouldn’t have any bottleneck issues?

also there’s two type c ports on the laptop, one of which supports power delivery at 100w. Does it matter which port is being used for display?

what do you mean with Bottleneck issues?

RTX 3060 will be a bottleneck, when you play Games in higher settings, but for just Desktop + Applications on that Monitor, every 5 year old igpu can do the trick. You really don't need much performance to show a Desktop - even in 4k.

TL;DR: don't worry there, you won't have any issues driving the Monitor with all it's features

Probably you have to use the USB-C Port with Power Delivery, since this also has Displayport 1.4 output.
But if i got the right specsheet here, both USB-C Ports should support Power Delivery and Displayport, so it shouldn't matter.
