Hi everyone I'm planning on building my first gaming pc soon when I head off to university (I live in the UK) and I've got my parts list and everything I just need dome rrcommendadtions on any little tweeks, my parts list is currently as follows:

Case: Cooler Master Stryker

Motherboard: Z87-GD65

CPU: Intel core i7-4770K

Graphics Card: GeForce 770

RAM: 8GB Corsair Vengence (2x4GB)

PSU: Corsair CX750

HDD: 1TB Black Western Digital

SSD: 120GB Samsung

OS: Windows 8.1

CPU Cooler: H100i

Mouse: G502 Logitech

So the few things I have in mind is to change out the factory fans on the H100i for a couple of Corsair SP120's, I know there isn't much difference it's just to match the colour theme on the inside of the case. I know that the noctua NF-F12's are meant to be good but I was hoping to get something that would match the black and red of the Z87.

The second thing I need a bit of help with is trying to find a decent mechanicat gaming keyboard either with brown or green switches and possible backlights.

Finally I wanted to know if anyone had a good idea on what kind of screen I should use on this since I don't have a lot left in the budget but I wanted to look for something around 28 inches.

Many thanks to anyone who helps :P

You don't need a 750W PSU for that build unless you want room for SLI and know you will upgrade in the future. Also you can go with a 4670k and get the same gaming experience and save about £100 which you could put towards say a GTX780 over the 770 and get a better gaming experience.

Sorry budget is around 1500 to 1800 and I know I could probably get a cheaper processor for it, I just seemed to like the thought of the 4770k since it has a bit of leeway for if games get anymore processor hungry ext.

Plus i went for the 770 origanlly to save a bit of money fince it was half the price of the 780ti.

The recommendation from the online power supply calculator said about 665watt without many expansions in and I probably will be upgrading the components somewhat when I get the chance

for a general gaming rig, everything you said sounds cool,

for the monitor you asked, i might suggest you go for something ips better for long term, probably something with acceptable input lag, i dont know what's your budget on monitor is . so if you can reply i'll be able to help you with that specifically. since you said its your first gaming rig ips panel wont be an issue to you withTN refresh rate comparison for general gaming. but you might wanna look into that and gsync enabled monitors later, but i need to know your budget on monitor alone for that matter.

happy build :D

Details separate people.

The main uses will be gaming for things like titan fall and thief I did leave a large gap in the budget for the peripherals and and forgot that I would be using the 4770k for multitasking but haven't got a great example of that at the moment :)

Thanks for so many replies in such a short time too :P

I HIGHLY suggest you wait for Z97 and haswell refresh / devils canyon for better thermals resulting in better overclocking as well as mpre connectivity such as m.2 and sata express. It will be released in a matter of weeks so it is worth the wait.

Will there not be a gid price difference if I end up waiting for the Z97 release? and The rig probably wont get underway for a little while now so there is plenty of time to make any changes to the set up, I hadn't really bothered looking into Z97 because I was worried the next gen would blow the roof off the budget >.<

I loved the idea of being able to try and get a G-sync, but for the time being i was worried again about the fact it may be to expensive to have in the budget, definately something that I would consider as an upgrade later on, I would probably give a budget of around 250 if thatas acceptable, sinxce I dont have a lot of experience when it comes to gaming monitors, in the past I've just been using the screen included in my laptop or a 46 inch LED TV which is apparently a VERY BAD choice when it comes to input lag from games haha

Oh sorry guys forgot for the power supply I did have a couple other reasons for using it, I wasn't sure about how much the power supply would age during use. Erm again I thought a modular power supply would be more expensive and I'm probably not the best when it comes to working out which of them will go where since its my first of build.

Finally I thought it would be a good idea where a majority of the components in the case came from the same manufacturerand I had faith that corsair would be a good brand to use :)

Do not worry. There will be no significant price difference (about $5 for the mobo and $10 for the cpu).

If you want a rig for uni, then is it a good idea to go with a smaller form factor? and you want the red / black theme so what about the m-atx ROG Gene m/board or the ROG m-itx impact m/board, Evga stinger or look at the MSi gaming boards.

if you want ultra small then the Evga hadron or Corsair 250D is a good start.

or 350D if you want a good easy to work with m-atx rig.

just a thought, there is a lot of options, please list budget and more details if you like to have intel vs AMD etc, for small rigs intel offers more choice of m/boards, but if you want to go cheap then the newest APU form AMD is an option with a great m-itx m/board with onboard wifi from Gigabite.

got to love Asus components

The computer is just going to be sitting at home, I have a laptop for uni so being portable isn't one of my priorities for it. I'm mainly focused on Intel because it's something I'm accustomed to maybe in a future pc I would use a AMD APU.

WiFi is going to be something I add via a PCIe card not necessarily straight away though because my router is no where near the max bandwidth limits
