Pi server??

you can, but it will run lika absolute horrid dog crap.

the ARM core on a raspberry does not like java, and a minecraft server really needs good single core (peak) performance.. which a pi just cannot provide.

basicly, the moment you start exploring, the load from generating chunks will kill the tickrate.

i'd also make a point of 2GB being fairly little to allocate to minecraft server, but the CPU is that limited that you arent gonna load up enough stuff for 2GB to be a problem.

2gb is the issue. A pi4 can run a server just fine on new versions with papermc and some jvm optimization, with a core oc. I did  it and 4 players exploring the average tick rate was like 19.7, and that was with floodgate also installed. The main issue more than 2 Player in different areas will fill your ram at 2gb

So, question is simple. Please no unhelpful comments like “not worth it” or “why even bother” i get that a lot its not helpful. Question is, can i run a minecraft server on a raspberry pi 4B 2GB. Can run it 24/7/365 as i can provide outstanding cooling. Is it doable?

Technically yes. Performance will suck, but it is possible to get it installed.

YES it is doable. 1.12 will prob run fine. i doubt the performance will be usable in latest versions.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Yea mines a 8gb.

smaller servers, especially on a like 1.12 papermc jar should be good.

Every pi4 is theoretically capable of about 2100mhz on the core, i think the actual number is 2137, but some 8gb ones can do more iirc

If you don't have the pi yet, you can probably get a used office PC that would stomp all over the pi for the same cost. Pi's prices are quite inflated currently.

Yea, but they’ll be back soontm

The same time that Nvidia returns pricing to sane levels? 🤔

I’d believe the rpi foundation much more than nvidia tbf
