4080 vs 4090

mariobros

For gaming in ultrawide 3440x1440 180hz monitor, is the difference of 670 CAD worth to upgrade to 4090?

I play a lot of games from AAA to indie. But it will be only for gaming use.

Also could my CPU be a bottleneck for either? I have a 5800x

for 3440x1440 the 4090 will be superior. I got an RTX 4080 and its doing well in 1440p 144hz, but I wouldnt go 4k with this card at that refreshrate.  5800x will be bottlenecking a 4090.  My 9900k@5.1ghz was a huge bottleneck for my RTX 4080. Had to get a new CPU.

that is my worry because if I factor an upgrade to cpu,mb and ram that option became way more expensive also.

Balanced 4080 system beats an unbalanced 4090 system.

To achieve that with max settings you're going to need all the performance you can get. Even a 4090 won't be enough for some games.

I have to agree with Dedayog. If spending $3000 over $2000 is going to break your bank then you have no business spending either.

The logic is similar to buying a car or a house or anything.  If you can afford a $200,000 Ferrari but have issues with the gas and insurance and maintenance... you need to re-evaluate.

Buying a 4090 and skimping on the rest is like buying said Ferrari and not insuring it or buying the cheapest gas/parts.

A 4090 is not a singular thing, it is a symbiotic relationship part of a whole.

Guy in another thread has an issue with a FREE 4090 but he is waffling on the rest of the machine.  Gotta have it all, or scale it back.

The 4080 is less than 60% of a 4090.

How about for 2560x1440? For games such as COD WZ 1/2, MW 1/2, FH5, FIFA? For those games, would a 4080 be good at 1440p?

Absolutely.  I play a lot more demanding games and I get 130+ fps no problem on high / ultra 🙂  I love my 4080!  FH5 is so easy to run on the 4080.  All the games you listed will run like a dream.

ppl say 4080 is not worth it, i would argue both cards are overpriced as hell so the 4080 is still the more sane option.

basically this, i have a 3070 and can run a lot of games ar 1440p 120fps+ so i have a hard time believing a 4080 (or even 4070) wouldn't be *much* better)

CPU is the more important question here IMHO

This is such stupid logic. If you can afford "X" why not just pay 30% more and get "Y".

It makes no sense.

Also not everyone wants to just spend an extra 1000$ on a rig even if they could afford it.
