I'm assuming you mean with OCing. In that case there are some great guides in the appropriate section of the forum, and on the LTT youtube channel.

In terms of the actual cooler I would mount the rad before the waterblock as it's easier to do in that order. Also depending on your case it might be worth taking out your mobo to mount the rad as you could have clearance issues with your mosfet/power delivery heatsinks.

Sometimes when a human does not get the correct nutrients they tend to respond like the few first posts.

TIPS

1) use the supplied radiator screws but be sure not to puncture the radiator tubes or fins

2) invest in an after market TIM

3) Invest in aftermarket fans if you want silence and performance in your rig

4) when installing make sure the radiator does not rest/press on any wires or parts on the motherboard

5) make sure to install and tighten the cold plate properly

6) while this is quite improbable try to ensure that no kinks in the tubing are created when installing your cooler

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

Doesn't matter if smudged. Just take the plastic cap off and squish it down on the cpu, wiggle it a little bit to make sure it's on properly then screw into place. Only way it will go wrong is if you try lick the thermal paste, so don't do that...

No no no no sir. It does matter if you Smudge it. When I got my h100i I accidentally smudges it, didn't think it was a big deal. Temps were 50 idle, and when I loaded a Web page it rocketed to 60,with fans full blast.

Sounds like you didn't seat the plate properly. I smudged mine and I have idle @ 28°C and 100% @ 65°C  4.6ghz 1.26v. You have to wiggle the plate around on the cpu to ensure that the thermal paste spreads into the gaps and seated flat.

Hrm... I think that's weird though, you would think that finger oil would eff it up. I'm not doubting you though

Just don't touch the bottom of the block. Other than that, just put it on and you'll be fine
