TrueNAS - constant small write stream on the disks?

Think you might need to reboot if you haven't.

If it is still happening you might need to check what is accessing it. Not sure s how you would do that though.

so i found the solution:

the pool of the applications was on the same pool. I needed to go to Apps -> Settings -> Unset Pool. This deletes all apps and then the write stream stopped.

So lesson learned: if you want applications and to have a power save measures in place, have an extra ssd for the apps to install

Hi there,

recently joined the NAS-club. Was checking my stats in Truenas and discovered a constant small amount of writes on the disks:

This goes as long as the nas is up. Config is one pool with 4x4TB WD Reds. Theoretically there shouldn't be any writes atm and the disks are set to shutdown/energy save after a period of time, but as there's that small constant write stream, they won't. Whats causing this and how do I fix it?

Thanks for your help!

That is normal default behavior as the system is on the storage pool and not the boot pool.

I installed TRUENAS on the additional NVME... or at least, so I thought. How do I change what you mean?

Are you using scale or core?

In scale under system then advanced you can change which pool the system dataset resides on.

Yes, I am using scale
Changed it, waited a few hours and now only halfed the writes but didn't stop it...

Think you might need to reboot if you haven't.

If it is still happening you might need to check what is accessing it. Not sure s how you would do that though.
