Have you ever had a display without dead pixels?

mcRYSHER

I am thinking about buying a new display. But there is a problem. I've had like 8 monitors in my life. All of them had dead pixels.

I bought a $1.5K monitor from LG 3 years ago. Two dead pixels appeared after a year of usage.

I bought a $1K 4K monitor from ViewSonic 5 months ago. Three dead pixels next to each other within the first month of usage.

The only thing that stops me from buying some nice and cool $2.5K display is a threat of getting dead pixels. I just can't force myself to buy it and face the risk of having dead pixels somewhere in the center of the display. I mean, you can't return it. There is no "zero dead pixels guarantee" in the industry. I wonder what do you guys think of it?

Some manufacturers do actually offer a zero dead pixel return on some of thier monitor models, shop around.

I have a Gigabyte 32inch 1440p G32QC display that is now nearing 4 years old, used daily and has zero dead pixels, cost £340 new, so it is possible, but it depends on the maturity of the display tech used, the cost of the materials and quality control and can vary wildly between manufacturers and models.

I've heard of DELL doing this. As far as I know LG doesn't offer that. Samsung and ViewSonic do not as well. Those are major manufacturers that make many nice monitors.

Yup, I'm suspecting OP always buying top notch all new stuff ends up betatesting non mature tech, less reliable than older one...

Something like first gen OLED TV buyers that got burned-in pixel areas ...

I've had 10+ flat panel displays, only one had a dead pixel, luckily I had it returned without issues.

But none of them cost above 380€ I think. So no state-of-the-art, latest models.

I edit my posts more often than not

Yes, every display I have ever had in my 35 years of having computers. No dead pixels.  1 or 2 "stuck" pixels that required a finger pop to unstick them.

Most monitors bought at Microcenter or Frys local incase of issues,  but even my Amazon and Newegg deliveries were 100% fine.

Not sure that;s the answer you're looking for, but you asked 😉

Seems like I am just a "lucky" guy. I am glad to know that many of you guys have never had dead pixels.

I am not in the US. Sadly, I don't have this luxury of returning electronics with no questions asked. When my monitor got dead pixels I asked my vendor if he can have it back. He said it is not a faulty monitor. Having dead pixels is "acceptable", lol.

Dead pixels are acceptable and technically does not prevent a monitor from working, however there is an industry standard (maybe different per country) on what percentage of pixels are allowed to be dead and where they are on the display.

The matter of returns is of course entirely down to the retail outlet and your reasons for returning a display.

Maybe as someone above suggested you are causing your own problems by being too selective about your product choices, no disrepect intended but if you limit yourself to a very narrow product/ price range then you are doing yourself no favours.

I am based in the UK so my experiance may differ from yours.

I've never had a dead pixel from any monitor I've ever purchased. So far, I've purchased 13 monitors from various brands and various price range.

Many countries, unlike the United States, do not have the option of simply returning a product even if they are dissatisfied with it where the product don't have any single issue. Don't worry, you're not alone.

When you are too picky about "something," that "something" will usually find you. Try don't go looking for dead pixels on purpose in the next purchase, you'll notice there aren't any.

I don't see how dead pixels can appear so easily. You may need to inspect the GPU; there is most likely something wrong with it, where the GPU is causing damage to the display.

I have always been lucky.

I had several Samsung 24"TN monitors, then a Dell u2515, an Asus MG24U,  an LG 29um68, two dell U2414 and an AOC 24G2 all without problems. However, last year my luck ran out. I am on the fourth gigabyte 1440p 32". One M32Q, and the third FI32Q will come soon. All had stuck pixels in bright colors. As soon as I get my replacement, I will sell it and get something else.
