Hey LTT fam! I have a friend with a small business and he asked me for help. My question is, what is the best way to backup his pos system? He wants it so if there is a drive failure he can slap in a new one and get going again without having to reregister all of his software and it will act as if nothing happened.

I know how to back up files and stuff, but a full functioning system is another thing...

If you guys can point me in the direction of a rabbit hole I can dive into I would appreciate it.

Keep being awesome my friends!

The only way I can think of accomplishing that is to setup something that would periodically image the drive and save it to a network share somewhere.

That way if there is a failure of the drive, you just put in a new drive and restore from that backup.

When it is rebooted after the restore it would be in the same state it was at the time of the backup.

For that to work there would need to be some target on the network that the image could get saved to and then software that can preform that task automatically.

Veeam Endpoint Backup I think is still free, there is also Windows Backup which you can do to another disk or network share. Or disk cloning software and write over a secondary disk every night.

Veeam might work as that is something one of my clients used.

Just make sure to keep it up to date and follow security best practices.
