Cannot enable G-sync without enabling Freesync Premium

Hello,

I have a viewsonic xg2431 and I am unable to enable the G-sync compatible setting without first enabling Freesync premium on my monitor. Without Freesync enabled, the option for G-sync does not appear in the Nvidia control panel but when it is enabled, the G-sync option appears. I've noticed artifacting when I have G-sync enabled (with freesync on as well in my monitors settings), where black bars appear in chrome for split seconds and it is super distracting as the location changes all the time. I've tried reinstalling my GPU drivers but this doesn't fix it. Do I have to turn on freesync before I can turn on G-sync?

Yes. G-sync compatible is nvidias adoption of freesync monitors, so'll have to be enabled in order to work

It has to be on since it enables the adaptive variable refresh of themonitor.

 

As for the issue with the artifacts, try disabling MultiPlane Overlay MPO, updating tre monitor drivers (download from ViewSonic) and the GPU firmware (vBIOS).
