Looking for a good 24mm film era lens, any ideas?

mr cheese

Hey all, since I'm not fortunate enough to afford digital glass, my entire fleet consists of a combination of vintage glass and used digital that I got for steals

Spoiler

For the curious, I have:

  • Helios 44M 58mm f/2.0
  • Helios 44-4 58mm f/2.0 (piece of actual garbage)
  • Mir-1V 37mm f/2.8 (only good when stopped down or globular)
  • Assorted 135mm lenses from various platforms (some of which I need to sell)
  • Sigma EF 8mm f/3.5
  • Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6

I did get a 6D for $300 in a lucky bid so now I shoot full frame, which makes lenses prohibitively expensive.

I want to start doing more landscape photography so I need a good 24mm, not too particular about aperture since I will be stopping down anyway most likely. Preferably M42 mount but anything except Canon film mounts should work.

Heard good things about the Pentax SMC 24mm f/3.5 but those are going for upwards of $100 on eBay, which I can do 9especially since those SMC lenses are very high quality) but it's a little stupid. Wanted to see if anyone else had good experience or knowledge of other options!

Those Pentax 24mm lenses are well worth their asking price. Bear in mind, shooting FF digital WILL reveal the physical limitations of old film glass, and will require some post work to get the best from the images.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

all of my existing equipment is vintage glass, I'm (unfortunately) well acquainted with the shortcomings and the extensive work required to get good images from them
