looking for a holo iso alternative

mapegl

I have ordered a second SSD and want to setup my PC with Linux and Windows.

While Steam OS is still not available, I would like to get something that is as similar as possible and may even allow me to use EMUDECK. I feel fairly confident in Linux, but I am by no means a pro.

Any suggestions for a Steam OS alternative?

LTT made a great video on this I recommend watching, as it shows how to go about this on a Linux distro (without rewatching I believe they use Pop!_OS)

yeah....well pop os! isn't as great as they make it out to be there.

And I was really looking for something that is a close to steam os / holo iso as possible. Maybe I will just have to go for it. However, I will not use it due to the ties to russia. I don't want to start a political discussion here, but I want to state that I will never use it.

the steam full screen mode is basically SteamOS afaik, I could be very wrong but that's the impression I got

Pop!_OS is adjacent to Russia??? They're headquartered in Denver Colorado...

Nah. Holo iso is made by a Russian who is supporting Putin. I ain't touching that.

It might not be a huge deal, because it is free....but still

I am still deciding what to do...

I have previously tried Ubuntu, which was fine, but I would love to go the arch route to have a similar experience to what I have on my deck.

first thing to ease your worry is that it's an open source tool that basically just bootstraps official valve software.

second, it is a 17 year old furry.

while I see your concern I think this is an reasonable time to separate the art from the artist

But, as your concerns are valid, arch is fun and I do recommend it for the sake of speed

I know what you mean. Just feels weird and the world is a much weirder place since last year.

Anyways, I am thinking about Manjaro. It is described as an easier-to-handle-linux, whatever that means. I have only tried Ubuntu and Mint, so this might be a bit different. Looking forward to it.

Now it is back to work and into a classroom with German students as well as Ukrainian refugees.

Personally I'd stay away from Manjaro, I believe it's meant to be a good project but it's got some strange instability both in software and, apparently, management:

https://github.com/arindas/manjarno

There are good install scripts for arch, but if you're looking for a fresh start I HIGHLY recommend trying to install it yourself. if you wanna use something easier but arch based, try EndeavourOS!

I am trying Arch...

To be honest, I haven't had too much experience with Linux. Just a bit of Ubuntu in the past and my Steam Deck.

Still, I am trying m luck with endeavouros.

Yeah I saw that the other day as well, but I have already "fought" my PC more than once to make everything work and no it actually does. Learned quite a bit in the process...

I will surely try another distro later, but not right now.

Thank you for your suggestion
