So i'm a new at using Linux so forgive me if this is really simple. I tried to install Ubuntu on a second drive. It brings up the purple Ubuntu screen, then it goes black. After a minute or so i get this glitchy purple and white screen and i don't know what to do.Here are my specs

also is this happening when trying to install or restarting?

Assuming your RAM is ok since you don't have troubble with windows, I can think about:

 -Corrupt iso/burn

-Conflict with GPU (this is very common with old versions)

I am trying a usb now and what do you mean old versions i used 14.04

Being new isn't an excuse to not read the documentation:

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/install-ubuntu-desktop

If you ask me it's pretty clear, instead of using and outdated version from 2011 wich most certainly doesn't support newer hardware you should have informed yourself about the version numbers and their signification.

You say you got the 14.04 and yet you're showing us a screen of 11.04, we can't help you if you're that much confused.

i grabed a image off google so you would know up to what point it was working....no need to be a dick

Canonical, the maintainer of Ubuntu is not affiliated in any way with google.

Valid, authentic iso are avaible here: http://www.ubuntu.com/

I'm not being a dick, there is no magic, how do you expect to go far with this system if you can't even bother reading a few webpages.

I'm sorry but if it is to complain here you should stop and revert to windows.

When we help at troubleshooting we expect you to have done the bare minimal of informing yourself with the basic, simple documentation, accessible from the same download webpage.

I never install Linux distros from USB sticks, PXE Boot or ISO boot.

@Matty122 You need to do an MD5 Sum check or SHA1 Sum check on the image you are using to make sure its fine. Just because you downloaded it does not mean its not corrupted. It happens, even to me some times.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

Try non ubuntu based live distros to see if it's ubuntu specific issue.

Like opensuse http://software.opensuse.org/131/en

or mint lmde http://www.linuxmint.com/download_lmde.php

or manjaro http://manjaro.org/get-manjaro/

Just to see if it's hardware or distro specific issue.
