Do you want to work with computers when you grow up?

smjpl

If you are a young buck that thinks "hey, I want to work with computers when I grow up", I think you should really watch the videos of the YouTuber Eli The Computer Guy. In his videos The Daily(ish) Blob show, he breaks his show down into two sections.

1. A current hot topic or a product review.

2. He has a Q&A section where people ask him questions about kick starting a professional career in computers.

It is this second section that I think most people on here should watch. He gives some very good advice on how you should approach a career in computers (be it in I.T. or computer science). He gives you the cold truths about working in the I.T. sector (not computer science) as he has worked in a corporate environment as well as starting his own business (computer repair and consultancy). He has worked in most sectors of the I.T. world so he has some valuable experience to offer.

Be warned: Eli might not have the most popular opinion sometimes (he is a true capitalist and he is brutally honest) but the upside is he isn't going to sugar coat anything for you so you get a good view of a different perspective.

I found his most recent video quite entertaining. Part 1 is on a neat piece of virtualization software (VMware Fusion 6) that offers a neat new feature to an old VM model. That is quite interesting. Part 2 (25 minutes in) he begins the Q&A. This is the part that I think most of you should watch. It is quite long and some of the questions aren't job related but I think you guys will like it all the same.

Definitely check him out though if you want to work with computers but ave no clue of what area to to work in.

I'm a programmer but I often rage because things don't work the way I want it to.

I will work as a programmer in the future because that's my study but it's not playing games. It's serious work for serious money.

Programmers won't get as much benefit as I.T. guys from this show (you will get some good advice though) and it is still worth the watch.

By the way I am not looking for your information. I am just saying you should watch his videos.

I always get the feeling people read the title and nothing else.

His channel is excellent and gives great fundamental advise on the tech busness world of today, I'd highly recommend anyone thinking of getting into the field or younger people just starting out.

Interesting when I get off work i'll have to check this out. I already work in the IT field as a  Network Admin.. I love networking and always have but I really wish I would have gotten into programming when I was younger, that is where the future is in programming.

Eli pretty much recommends that whenever someone asks him what they should get into , programming is were the money is and its going to be in even more demand in the future.

He doesn't recommend getting into programming per say but he doesn't recommend getting into I.T. if you want to be rich. Pretty much the same thing but I though I should just add that.

I wasn't necessarily directing that to you, but now that you mention it, you should be studying and not on LTT in school. ;)
