It'll hold the GPU back a bit, but still worth buying.  If you can upgrade the CPU later, that would be your next step.  Like a Ryzen 5600 for example, good pairing with the 6600 8GB.

5700 is stronger than 6600, 5700XT performs better than a 6600XT in some cases in others they are similar. 

For that Haswell 4790k a GPU it can properly utilize is something like a Radeon rx 580 or gtx 1650 Super. That's 5500XT, 1060 6GB, RTX 3050 and such cards.

But if you're upgrading your platform in less than a year, get the strongest you can.

 

Which GPU do you have now?

It might be beneficial to upgrade the platform first...

Yes, spend the $300 you'd spend on the GPU on the platform, you can get a Ryzen 5 5500 or 5600, a B450 board and 2x8GB ddr4 3200.
