New Pc Build

Go to solution Solved by DucaLemming,

I think i'll go with the Node 804, simply because i like the looks most and because it can fit many Radiators into it.

Thanks for the Help.

Hi, at first i'm not a native speaker so i'm sorry for any mistakes in my language.

I'm planing to build myself a new gaming System, with a i5 3670k, a z87 or z97 board (when they are out), and something like a gtx 760 and some Vengance Pro RAM. Later i also want to add a custom water cooling loop into the system. Whenb i do that i will water cool the system i will cool the CPU and GPU and maybe the Motherboard or even the RAM.

So i'm currently looking for a new case, since a case is a long lasting component i want a case with quality, that lasts more than one system. Because i'm planing to do water cooling i want to have a window on the case, but i'm also ready to do a mod to the system and so mod the window in. Also because of the water cooling the case needs to be capable of that.

Also i'm a little bit restricted in the size of the case. Exactly the case has to be maximum 45cm long, 39 to 40 cm wide and about 43 cm in height.

Also the I/O has to be on the front, the top or if i look at the front on the case on the left side, so not like on the Fractal Desing Node 804. Also the motherboard tray can't be inverted, since the the window would be facing a wall.

Also i want to have a sleek design like corsair or fractal does. I'm planing to do a black and green color scheme, so if the case is only black, i'm fine with that, but if there's also green on the case if it's not too much it would be great :D.

For motherboard size i really don't care form EATX to Mini ITX evreything is possible :D.

If i forgot something i'll be happy to say that later.

So i hope you can help me.

Greetings Duca Lemming.

Few things to consider when looking for a case when you plan on water cooling is to figure out what size radiators you want and how many you want.

Watercooling the motherboard chip and RAM won't make much of a difference by the way, but if you're doing it for looks and got the money, go for it.

Also, the i5 3670k has a 1155 socket, so you won't be able to use z87 or z97 motherboard. You will need a z77.

The dimensions you listed is a little tricky. The biggest you can go is mATX, but the smaller the case, the tricker it is to efficiently water cool your system.

The Corsair Obsidian 350d is a good choice, but it close to 44cm in height if that will fit your needs.

The Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 which again doesn't quite fit your requirements exactly, but it is good for water cooling if you remove the optical bays.

The Node 804 is of excellent build quality, has a window, awesome for water cooling, looks nice, and fits your desired dimensions. You might have to live with the I.O being on the right side.

Any smaller case will need some sort of modding to fit a sufficient amount of radiators for a good water cooled system.

I don't see much sense in watercooling a 760, since it's not a hot card to begin with and custom loops are expensive. You could go with something like a cooler master galileo mini, but you'd have to cut the window yourself. otherwise yeah, you can't use a 1155 CPU with a Z87 or Z97 motherboard.

Thanks for the answers,

first for the CPU i meant the i5 4670k not the 3670k :P.

For the GPU, i'm already thinking about a GTX 770 but i've to see.

Unfortunately the Cooler Master Galileo Mini isn't available in my location.

For the Obsidian 350d, i think it would look really massive at my desk, maybe too massive.

The looks of the Arc Mini R2 are not so appealing to me.

So there's only the Node 804 left, i'm thinking it's really good looking and it can hold a big number of radiators, i think a 240 mm and a 280 mm in the top a 120 mm in the front and a 120 or 140 mm, i don't know which, in the back. also the window is very good positioned. And the internals are very good made. Also because of the 5 Pci slots it's possible to do Sli or crossfire even with something like the gigabyte g1.sniper m5. for the I/O i don't want to install a optical drive and i can use a keyboard with integrated usb hub and my headphones have a angled connector so that will probably fit.

But i don't have an idea where to mount the Pump an d the Res, i want the to be visible since i want to use a Pump top, and it will probably look really good :).

I also find the caselabs mercury s3 interesting, but it's a lot more expensive. Is it worth the more money ? Has anyone experience with caselabs cases or even this particular one ?

I'm not a native speaker so i'm sorry for any mistakes in my language, thanks :).

Why watercool? Where are you shopping/located?

1. The 350D is not massive. I believe it is very compact for a mid-tower, almost treading on mini-tower territory.

2. The Node 804 is fat as hell. The 250D can't hold a candle to the 804 and 304's girth.

3. If you think that the 350D is too big, I don't understand why you want the Mercury S3. It's mini-ITX but it's probably as tall as the 350D while being much wider as well.

4. Why oh why are you watercooling a GTX 760?

5. Are you planning a custom loop for the sake of having a custom loop? I don't think that's a great investment considering that you want a 4670K with a 760 in small mATX form factor but not mITX.

The 350D isn't a mid tower. It's a matx case.

The Mercury S3 is 2-3" shorter and shallower than the 350D while being 1-2" wider.

Thanks for the answers,

i didn't know the thing with the notification, thanks for the tip :).

I'm located in Germany.

For the Mercury S3, I wasn't able to find the dimensions on the page, i simply overlooked it.

If it's not that much smaller than the 350d it's maybe not such a good option.

Now for the Watercooling, I'm planing to add the Water cooling loop later, and when i do this i will probably upgrade the CPU and GPU.

I wan't to do water cooling for the better temperatures and overclocking headroom and also for aesthetics.

2. The Node 804 is fat as hell. The 250D can't hold a candle to the 804 and 304's girth.

I apologize i don't know this expression, can you explain it to me, couldn't find a translation or explanation on the internet.

If you mean that the Node 804 has a wide footprint, i'm totally fine with that in my case it's better to have a Wider footprint than height.

And i've one more question, how do i tag people ?

But many thanks for the help.

Greetings.

Yes lol, sorry about that, yes the Node 804 is very wide because it's a two-compartment design. It's like the Carbide Air 540.

The left compartment stores the motherboard and everything on it, and the power supply and extra hard drives are in the other compartment.

I think the 2 chamber design of the Node 804 is very good. The "ugly" parts are not visible and it's possible to show off the good looking components.

I personally like the Node 304 better because you can mod the top of it with a half sizeto display only the board (PSU is in the front of the case).

Your choice, you decide which one you like better. My #1 pick is still 250D / Elite 130.

Sorry i didn't had any time to read the thread the last days, many to do for school.

I think i will go with the Node 804 simply because of the  increased water cooling options and because it fits mATX so it's more expansion for the future. And i think it's the prettiest of all :D.

Thanks for the help.

If we're talking mATX, then I think you should give the SG09 and Prodigy M a look. They're the same configuration and I feel that they're much more space-efficient than the Node 804, which I still think is just fat.

If you've already bought the Node 804, then don't bother; the Node is still a good case.
