Need a question answered..

Hi so I'm brand new to this and uh well I had a friend send over a few parts including a 750W power supply I originally had a 400W but my build will no longer be supported like that but upon opening the box I realized every cord was there except the wall plugin

Would the 400W plugin work as a replacement or am I going to need to buy a new power supply entirely?

To be absolutely clear, if you are talking about the mains power cord that goes from the back of the PC to the electrical outlet on the wall, then those are basically universal.

Your "PC master race" thing is cringe.

Yeah that's what I meant I wasn't sure if it would pull less electricity into the power supply itself or not

It may sound like a dumb question but I'm not really experienced in this type of stuff

not at all, no problems with being cautious.

It only matters in a handful of use cases because of the wire gage, if the power limits are relatively similar, you'll be fine, and example of the small number of issues would be if you were trying to use a cable from an extremely low watt device that has say a 100w draw which would have a very skinny cable that probably wouldn't be a great idea to use that cable with something that will try to draw 2000w, beyond something that extreme its fine

most of these cable are around the same gage wire now a days, however if the wire was an unusually small wire and you tried to use it with a device with an unusually high power draw, it'll still pull the same electricity but for a short time before the real problem starts 💩

the cables from a 400w and a 750w are about the same though so its not a problem
