TV Standby Timer vs Sleep Timer. Whats the difference?

KatanaDV20

Ok I feel dumb for asking this but here goes.

Just got a new Android TV. I tend to fall asleep while watching it at night and want it to switch off automatically after a set amount of time.

The menu system shows two choices:

  • Standby Timer (3hr/4hr/5hr/6hr)
  • Sleep Timer (15min/30min/1hr/2hr/3hr/4hr)

Whats the difference if both of them will turn off the screen? The manual does not elaborate on this. All it does is illustrate how to navigate to the two options.

Thanks much.

Forgot to add, the manual has no info (will edit post). It just shows how to navigate to the options. Its not a big brand name TV a random cheap Chinese one.

I tested the sleep timer on 15 mins and it turns the tv off.

Just a bit confused as if the Sleep timer does this what does the Standby timer do..

yea I have no idea, the only thing I could think would be standby will turn the tv off after a certain time period if there is no signal or change in the screen maybe?

How these normally work on modern TV's is a sleep timer will shut the TV off full stop at the time specified and it resets when you turn it back on. You have to re-setup the sleep timer when you get in bed. This has been this way for decades.

Standby timers will shut the TV off after a pre-specified time where no activity/input is detected.

Oh I see, now its clear to me. So if I understand correctly?:

  • Standby Timer = persistent setting
  • Sleep Timer = one time setting that needs to be reset once tv turned back on
