external GPU's?

Whenever thunderbolt is on every laptop and can handle it. Pretty soon but i'm assuming the external card isn't going to run off the battery of the laptop. Not exactly portable.

is it just me or are they already hear for laptops ?

And wouldn't you need a super high-end mobile CPU to not bottleneck the desktop GPU's? (If that method becomes possible).

an external 750 ti would theoretically be possible... 60W is somewhere around what the more powerful notebook GPUs use anyways. Plus if you're carrying an external GPU, might as well carry a second/external battery.

If I was staying in a hotel for a few weeks I could see stuffing a psu in my bag along with a laptop and gpu

But at that point, whats really the point. Pretend your on a train and have a 750 ti hooked up to a battery, hooked up to a laptop. If its just a school ultra book and then gaming at home, its perfect. I'd rather have an ultrabook for school that can plug into a gpu on my desk at home. But at the same time it's not exactly portable.

In my experience with laptops the CPUs actually aren't bad. They stick a decent enough CPU for productivity and then a 630M or something, and then charge a premium for having dedicated graphics at all. I'd be generous and say it was because of power consumption and battery life, but they do the same with desktops.
