Hello!

I recently bought a motherboard to use as a server. It's a ASUS P9D-MV. I'm looking at the BIOS and its reporting MB temperature at 128celcius!!!

I've been running the pc now for about 30 minutes, moving some files in trueNAS. Is it safe to assume it is reporting the wrong temps? Surely it would just shut off instantly long before reaching 128 celcius?

You just answered your own question. It must be a misread or a faulty sensor. The max temp for that board is 120c. It would shut down if it was hitting 128c. It at least should have stability issues.

You could try updating the bios. Maybe its a known issue that was fixed in a later bios? It's worth a try.

Eh it's not really bothering me, just making me a bit paranoid. Figured I'd double check before taking my own guess as fact and burn my pc down lol

Are you sure it ain't 128 Fahrenheit ? 128F = 53C so it'll make sense

It's still in use in some backwater countries 🙂

128 is max 8bit signed int. It's the TR1 sensor header and you don't have the sensor installed. The EMI inside the case is inducing a slight (harmless) voltage which the firmware is interpreting as a signal. Safe to ignore
