Thoughts about the redesign of Wikipedia?

The design of Wikipedia has been updated for the first time in over 10 years. Although this new design is very similar to the previous one in a lot of ways, certain aspects of the user interface have been changed, and it seems that a lot of people dislike the new design. I'm personally not a fan of it, and I think there's an incredible amount of wasted space, especially on larger displays. Thankfully there's an option to go back to the legacy design. Unfortunately this is only an option when you're signed in, which is something I never needed to do until now. So, does anyone have any thoughts about this? I've included a couple screenshots below to show the basic differences (click for full resolution).

Agree with it being a waste of space. They say it's supposed to help with readability, but I think they're misunderstanding who actually uses wikipedia. I like having all the information possible in front of my eyeballs vs having to scroll for miles.
