Could I use an unused Corsair CX600M sitting in its box for years, in a new system with an i5-13600 and iGPU or a RTX 3050 or 3060? I was advised not to use it with recent hardware, but I would like to read more opinions about this. In case I need to buy a new PSU, what would you choose from the following, if any?

CORSAIR TX550M (2021) GOLD
FSP HYDRO PRO 600W BRONZE
BE QUIET! SYSTEM POWER 9 CM 600W BRONZE
THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GX1 600W GOLD
COOLERMASTER MWE 650 BRONZE - V2
ASUS TUF GAMING 650W BRONZE
CORSAIR TX750M (2017) GOLD

I think 550W would probably be sufficient, but I could get something more powerful to be on the safe side.

Im not too picky when it comes to PSUs (within a reasonable range) so i think i would use the PSU you already have.
Is it a really good PSU? No.

Will it blow up? Most likely not.

So in the end i cant guarantee that there will be no problems, but you are most likely going to be fine.

If you want to go for the safe option, i would go for the ASUS TUF GAMING 650W BRONZE or the COOLERMASTER MWE 650 BRONZE - V2

CX600M is 10 years old, has an outdated internal design of double forward with groupregulation. You don't want to use such a dinosaur in a new system like I explained in

From this list you only have to look at both Corsairs and the Asus. Get the cheapest.

The FSP and be quiet have an outdated double forward topology on the primary and a 230v input.

The Thermaltake is missing OTP.

For the Cooler Master it depends if it's the full range or 230v version.

If chances are it will not blow up, I might give it a try.

Both models from CORSAIR are ATX 12V v2.4, shouldn't I get something that is v2.52 instead? What is the difference between 2017 and 2021?

I can find COOLERMASTER MWE 650 Bronze - V2 230V (MPE-6501-ACABW-B, 200-240V) and MWE 650 Bronze - V2 (MPE-6501-ACAAB, 100-240V), but not MWE 650 Bronze - V2 Full Range (MPE-6501-ACAAW, 100-240V). Is any of the two available, worth buying?

I need to check, I am sure it's less than 8 years, but it's more than 3.

yeah....  if you *need* it right now to get up and running, go for it, but I'd not trust it

CX600M is EOL for 8 years so it must be 8 years or older. What are the first 4 digits of the S/N of the PSU?

I used a PSU from the same Corsair series in another build and it is still working after 10 years. So even if this is 8 years old, I still trust it, until I am proved wrong.

Well I too trusted my Antec 750W PSU for 8+ years tapping only <400W...until it proved me wrong with a loud bang and some smoke. No real warning signs either.

Using an old PSU is a game of press your luck, except you dont win cash, and if you hit a whammy you might lose more than your PSU. You do you, but dont say you werent warned.

That was thankfully my older system, but I don't have another PSU to see if my mobo or other parts got fried.
