So I recently got an upgrade for my router to a Wi-Fi 6 router and have been having issues with my older Chromecast Ultra (because I didn't realize none of the Chromecasts support Wi-Fi 6). It's strange as it will work for a few days just fine after a hard reset, but then just quits working like it's not connected to the internet at all. Does anyone know if there's a way to set up a Wi-Fi 5 channel on my new router specifically for the Chromecast so I can get it to work again? Or am I out of luck and just going to have to wait for yet another new Chromecast? It's a Neatgear Nighthawk router and I was messing around on the admin page for a bit, but got lost pretty quick and didn't really know what I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated!

Wi-Fi 6 is backwards compatible.

Your issues are most likely not caused by the ChromeCast only supporting Wi-Fi 5. Setting up a Wi-Fi 5 network would most likely not help at all.

But sure what the issue is, but I think you are jumping to the wrong conclusions.

Learn something new every day! I did some googling but the only thing I could really find was someone else with the same problem and the only mention to a solution was that the Chromecast isn't Wi-Fi 6 compatible, so knowing it's backwards compatible is nice. I posted cause I wasn't having any issues with the connection until after I got the new router. The only thing between the Chromecast and the router is a couch, the TV itself, and about 15 feet of space, so I don't think it was caused by any of that. Not sure where to go from here, so I'll just deal with it for now I suppose.

What has been preventing me from suggesting things to try is your statement about how it works for a couple days and then doesn't.

What is the message on the screen?

Does power cycling fix it?

If no, how do you fix it?

I have a chromecast v1, with a mesh wifi (Deco X20) i had to turn off the 2.4ghz band, just to activate the chromecast. Once it was "activated" i could turn 2.4ghz back on and never had to touch it again.  I also have it connected to the USB port on the tv so it power cycles with the tv.

There's no message on the screen, in fact there's nothing on the screen but the pictures that cycle (no setup code or anything). Power cycling doesn't fix it, but for some reason it shows back up in my Home app as a new device to set up (at the top of the app where the suggestions are) and I can just set it up again to fix it. Maybe I messed up the reset button when I reset it to set it up on the new router... But I'll try turning of the 2.4 band temporarily to see if that might do something!
