The laptop with this freezing issue at random time intervals from boot up, and after freezing gets a BSOD with the error whea_uncorrectable_error so i tried running memtest86 to see if the ram is the issue,

Now the issue is, it freezes at random when running memtest86 I'm not sure if all the 4 passes are the same or not, it has definitely passeed once with all 13 tests with zero errors but it ends up freezing either before or after the first pass as when it freezes is almost random, also ran windows memory diagnostics with 0 errors

Can I assume the ram is fine since it has reached pass 2/4 multiple times with 0 errors or could it still be a ram issue

Specs: I5 9300h GTX 1650 8x2 GB SK Hynix Ram 512 m.2 nvme Kingston SSD

p.s not sure if this information is relevant at all but the earphones plugged in always start buzzing when the laptop freezes

Do you run memtest inside windows or from a thumb drive?

from a usb

So we can rule out software and drivers crashing. Have you tried running the laptop with each stick of RAM individually? Is the laptop running stock or did you OC the processor? If you did, the integrated memory controller inside the CPU could act up. I doubt it is the drive, because you ran the test from an external device.

i have tried running both of the ram sticks individually and both of them had the same issue after 10 minutes of valorant, i undervolted the processor earlier for a year or so for -140.6 mV because of high temps but recently because of the issue i have reinstalled windows wiping the drive and have not undervolted again

The first thing would have been to clean your laptop. Undervolting is risky on laptops unless you have an unlocked bios. By undervolting you also modify the voltages on the memory controller, which could lead to problems, not to mention it could mess with the default fan curve, making things even worse.

Now to remedy your problems, can your laptop be opened up? You want to unplug it, then remove the battery as well as the CMOS battery, then hit the power button a couple of times before reconnecting the batteries and booting the system. I believe there is a chance your voltage modifications are still in effect, that's why you want to reset everything. Have you tried updating the laptop to the latest bios as well?

i see, i recently got the laptop cleaned up from a service center so it should be clean enough, and i dont think i have updated my bios ever

i'll open it up and do try to do the battery thing

Did your issue begin after you got the laptop back from cleaning?

Is your cpu running cooler now or still overheating? What's your ambient temperature like?

Ok so i tried removing the CMOS battery and battery pressed the power button a couple times, I'm not sure if it worked but bootup took longer than usual and after testing if issue was still there for like 5 minutes it gave me a black screen instead of either freezing on current screen/BSOD with error whea_uncorrectable_error and was not showing screen when booting up with keyboard lighting on but it did after i held down the power button for 30 secs or so when turning it off, so uh idk if i was even able to reset bios in the first place and issue is still there

About cpu temps, how do I monitor them

You can use a free utlity like HWinfo to check them.

After resetting you want to check bios and make sure XMP is on. That is one of those issues where I would need to have the device in front of me. Btw. what laptop do you have?

About the bios update, the official website has bios version 2.03 latest and somehow my bios shows v2.06 when i ran it, and i have an acer aspire a715-75g

I'll get back to you about the ambient temps when i have them

When I look at it, the Acer website lists 2.06 as the latest version. Should be fine.image.png.7db67153be0178a9d0e231071cb022fd.png

The ambient cpu package temp is ranging from 48°c to Max 74°c at 14% load with only chrome and hwinfo open

That's quite warm for such a low load. I still not sure it is the root cause of the issue but it won't hurt to repaste the cpu and gpu. I'd also replace the CMOS battery, just in case.

Try something else: Can you disable the graphics card and just run on integrated graphics? Trying to rule out the GPU as the culprit here. You could also check with another memory module just be absolutely certain. Doesn't have to be a big or a fast module for testing purposes.

repasting and getting a cmos replacement and a memory module may take a day or two since i will have to accquire them first,

i have disabled my dedicated gpu through device manager for now tho lets see

Update : just freezed after like 5 minutes of Skyrim

Another thing i forgot to mention, whenever i get a BSOD it never goes above 0% and never restarts on its own i have to always force shutdown by holding the power button for 30 secs

are stats and temps like this fine for a laptop, when i started the match it went up to 90c temperature and boosted up to 4.00 ghz and after a while it settles back down to 87c temperature and only boosting up to 3.3 to 3.5 ghz

i never really payed attention to temp stats before this so i have no idea if this this is the norm or not

got a replacement for cmos battery, still need to repaste the cpu
