Hi, I am starting a new build from scratch except that I also wanted to use my old drives in the new build. Would it be possible to just connect the drives without any repercussions? Or Should I start fresh and just copy from a backup drive?

GPU: RTX 2070

MOBO: Asus Prime Z390-A

RAM: 2x8 Corsair LPX 3000 CL15

SSDs can age and stop working, although I have never had issues. The HDD on the other hand, could die, with heavy use. How long have you had it?

Probably around 4 years now

Yeah, they only have a 2 year warranty. As long as you are only using it for games and backup, you should do fine. I just wouldn't trust it with anything to important.

So itd be fine to just connect the SSD OS drive without backing it up?

You will most likely need to reinstall your operating system (windows?). If you've got legal games on the other disks, you most likely need to reinstall them, or use steam to reinstall it all over again.

Data like movies, series, moosic, comics, books and random documents, should be totally fine. Just make sure they aren't inside some kind of protected folder, from windows. (in the past, I've had issues accessing "my documents" folders/files, due to a new installation/other account)

*EDIT: 4 years of average usage should still make those disks very valid. I'm in the process of rebuilding my pc in a new case, and my oldest disk is close to 12 years old, and spinning all that time. According to software, still in near perfect health. (don't thrust software)

So you’re saying it should be fine to plug and play with the drives?

Yes. That ~12 yo HDD has survived 3 different pc's already. I personally don't consider a 4 yo HDD with consumer-grade usage, worn out. (but even with new disks, keep back-ups)
