New to LLT community and really itching to build.

Go to solution Solved by jamie.three,

Alternatively its often a good idea to go a bit cheaper for a first build, here is a good 1080p build thats a lot cheaper: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jxj2Dq im assuming that you already own a 1080p monitor? the rx6650xt is closer to an rtx3060 in performance (perfect for 1080p gaming) but is much cheaper at the moment, and the 13400f looses a few cores but still has more than enough for gaming making it much better value for money than a 13600k or 7700x

Budget (including currency): $2000 USD (Trying to be under $1500, but know this stuff is expensive)

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Valorant, Destiny 2, Rocket League, Eldin Ring

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Upgrading from the Omen 16-C0011 Laptop. No existing parts besides peripherals. Looking to play at 1080p, 144hz.

CPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qzHzrD

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 4.5 GHz 8-Core Processor  ($340.23 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master MASTERLIQUID ML120L RGB V2 65.59 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($89.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard  ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston FURY Beast 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5200 CL40 Memory  ($119.99 @ B&H)
Storage: Western Digital Blue SN570 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive  ($69.98 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ventus 2X 12G GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 12 GB Video Card  ($464.01 @ MemoryC)
Case: NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case  ($89.99 @ NZXT)
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x (2021) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($109.99 @ Corsair)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Home OEM - DVD 64-bit  ($119.98 @ Amazon)
Total: $1604.15

This would be my first PC Build. I just started watching LTT videos and got the itch to build my own rig. I know very little PC part lingo, so I’m not sure if I picked things that aren’t comparable/needlessly expensive for what they put out. Any help is much appreciated!

The 7700x is a bit expensive for this budget, 120mm AIOs are pointless, either get an air cooler or at least a 240mm AIO, 32GB of RAM isnt a bad idea but for most people its a bit excessive. The case and power supply and SSD are all great choices. The 3060 isnt bad in theory but at $460 its very bad value and you could get something much better. also you can easily get a 1440p capable PC within this budget.

I'd recommend this build instead: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zMK3JM

its about the same price excluding the 1440p monitor but will have much better performance, with the biggest upgrade being the RTX 4070ti instead of a 3060 (its about 2.5x as fast!) and i'd recommend getting a 1440p monitor since it fits in your budget and the much better pixel density makes a huge difference over 1080p when it comes to 27" monitors.

This build should be able to play any game at 1440p high or max settings and get some very impressive fps

System: AMD R7 5700g (OC to 4.45GHz fixed clock) / Noctua NH-D15 / Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 / Gigabyte Waterforce WB RTX 2080 Ti / Crucial 4x8GB DDR4 (OC to 3800MHz Cl16) / 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus / Corsair 4000D airflow / Corsair TX650M / BenQ Mobius EX2510 24.5" 1080p 144Hz

The ryzen 7700x isn't that really good for gaming. It does have a excellent TDP if you are worried about your electric bill rising sky high. It does offer great performance per watt, but the whole AM5 platform isn't really good for gaming. Plus it is really expensive for not that great of gaming performance. I would recommend @jamie.three's build it will fit your needs and has excellent price to performance ratio.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Maybe Restart it?

MSI PRO B660M-A does not have BIOS flashback, how's he going to update the BIOS with 13th gen CPU?

OP, my recommendation as below.

13600KF, beast of a gaming CPU, coupled with AK620, one of the best air coolers.

MSI PRO B760M-A, great board for the price, could go with MRI PRO Z690-A if you want, but you'd need to update the BIOS with the BIOS flashback feature.(Or DDR5 variants of these board)

DDR4 3600 instead, could go 2x16GB 3600 or 2x16GB DDR5 6000.

Kingston NV2, great value gen 4 SSD, or could go with P3 Plus if you want.

RX 6800, faster than 3070 Ti but cheaper, very strong 1440p GPU.

PSU changed to 650W high quality one, don't need more than that for this build.

Windows license, please buy it somewhere else for less than $30.

This is amazing. Thank you guys for breaking it down for me! I definitely Love the idea of the higher end one going up to 1440p, but the lower end build like you said may be better for my first build (and since I am also saving for another big purchase here in a couple of months). Before I pounce on anything I want to see what the difference between the motherboards @Dukesilver27- proposed. Again, I have very little knowledge in this subject so BIOS doesn't mean much to me in a conceptual sense. Either way, thank you @jamie.three @FI Fheonix and @Dukesilver27- for the quick responses and guidance. Excited to find a build for me.
