ftw3 ultra 10gb 3080. 850psu and 32gb ram. I have 11400 right now but my motherboard is killing my performance so I need to upgrade. so I decided to upgrade cpu to. should I buy 12600 or 12400? and what about K and F versions? I have 265tdp cooler so I have no cooling problem. also my budget is not so high but maybe I can make my budget high enough for 12600.

My advise would be 13400 with B760 or B660 with BIOS flashback, whichever is cheaper or available.

13400 is essentially a clocked down and locked 12600K, but it is still a very good budget CPU, it performs closer to 12600k than it is to 12400 due to the extra 4 e-cores.

The difference between the two is clock speeds. They're very similar performance values, it's pretty much just whatever is cheaper that makes sense, erring on the side of the 12600.

The -F variants just means whether the card has an iGPU or not, so if you need to use integrated graphics for one reason or another get the non-F and if you don't get whatever's cheaper. As for the -K variant, it generally just means slightly higher clocked and can overclock, but with the 12600 it affects core count. The 12600K has 4 E cores while the 12600 does not, if they're similarly priced get the -K version.

You should get an i7 you are bottlenecking the heck out of the card with an 11400 i have a 10400 and 3080 12gb and my usage is only ever 50-60%

13400 like any other 13th gen, could go either DDR4 or DDR5.

I personally like having IGPU, because you never know when you will need them. If GPU error or broken ever happens, at least my IGPU could still save the day.

Tho, depending on where you live, 13400 are not fully released yet.

In my country, 13400 has been on sale since early December 2022.

Flat-out bad advice.  The core counts on alder lake chips are massive, and the i7 is the same cores, just more of them.  Any of the i5s have plenty of cores and threads, and they are more than fast enough for a 3080.  The core count hardly matters for bottlenecking anyway.  Once you have enough threads, you have enough threads.  Bottlenecking a specific GPU is really only a thing with how fast and efficient the threads are, which with alder lake that is overwhelmingly a non-issue.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

330 for non F and c$290 for F version of 13400. its on sale here. Should I buy because early items might have problems. also I have an old GPU that one might help me when I had gpu problems. Igpu is life saver but I dont know that 40 dolar can be sacrificed for that

there shouldnt be any issues with buying early, also if you have an old GPU then id say save the money and go with a 13400F, with any luck you will never need to do any GPU troubleshooting and if you do then having a spare GPU should be enough

System: AMD R7 5700g (OC to 4.45GHz fixed clock) / Noctua NH-D15 / Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 / Gigabyte Waterforce WB RTX 2080 Ti / Crucial 4x8GB DDR4 (OC to 3800MHz Cl16) / 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus / Corsair 4000D airflow / Corsair TX650M / BenQ Mobius EX2510 24.5" 1080p 144Hz

13th gen has been out for a while, it's not exactly new anymore. CPUs aren't GPUs, they don't need drivers. The B760 motherboards on the other hand, could be an issue, mostly BIOS issue, but boards issues are usually quickly ironed out.

If you have an old GPU, then go with F version.

b660, the b760 motherboards are basically exactly the same. every PCIe slot is backwards compatible so thats not an issue, you can even have a mix of different PCIe gens on different components all running at their own pcie gen at the same time (e.g. a gen4 GPU and a gen3 SSD)

Yes, any gen of GPU can be plugged into any motherboard and they will work
