Hello there! I am thinking about buying an old GTX 1080 Ti Asus Poseidon model. It is the hybrid card, and it has two ports for the tubes, with a pre-installed water block. I am wondering if I can use a standard aio with the pump in the dead space of the radiator, and detach the water block and put fittings to connect it to the two openings on the card? Or am I just stupid. Thanks in advance.

PS: what are those connectors called? Barbs or something?

The ones I am seeing (there are apparently horizontal and vertical versions) are female thread, not barb.

While not exactly impossible it would be a huge pita.   The problem is partially that the hoses on AIOs are not uncommonly done in the cheapest way possible, and are often more tubular baggies with a cover than actual hoses, and as a result can’t actually be used with barb fittings.

to do what you describe you would have to have an AIO with actual hoses, screw to barb adaptors of the appropriate size, and would have to know the formula for the fluid (because the pump may require a specific fluid type) so you could mix some because there WILL be spillage.  Closed loops don’t want any air in them.

What you are basically doing is turning an AIO which is an OEM closed loop into a custom closed loop.   It would be cheaper if you’ve already got an AIO in hand, because parts, but not easier.  The easier solution is to build a custom closed or open loop from parts.  If you have to buy the AIO it’s probably cheaper to just buy a pump (or pump/Rez) and radiator seperately.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Thanks for taking  the time out of your day to answer my silly question! Just was curious because it would be cheaper than making a whole custom loop. I think I will just stick with the air cooling option, because I do not trust my self enough to do a custom loop and do not have the money for a custom loop. Also another quick question for you, know any gpus I can get for around $200 on the used market? I play Minecraft, TABS, Valorant, and I develop games in Unity, and model in blender. Thanks if you are willing to answer this question. Thanks again!

If you don’t have the money for a custom loop you don’t have the money for an AIO.  While. You can spend a ton of money on nickel plated copper custom loop parts you can get aluminum and plastic crud off aliexpress for about the same price.  The problem AIOs have is basically all OEM stuff has massive shortcuts in it.  There are AIOs without such shortcuts but they’re often VERY expensive.

Thanks for all the help. I appreciate. I think I’ll just save the money.
