Questions about partitions/partitioning

Go to solution Solved by Tan3l6,

OK, got all fixed. The partition labelling - no idea how.

But the newest Thaiphoon Burner (version 1.71) refers in it's error message that it might be caused by latest 11 build "Smart App Control".

So I disabled some scurity settings, but what actually helped was Thaiphoon Burner readme:

*** Hovewer, you can disable Windows 11 WDAC policy to let Thaiphoon Burner
*** run its driver via "Windows Security"->"Device Security"->"Memory
*** Integrity":OFF. Then run Regedit.exe, open the key
*** [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CI\Config]
*** and set “VulnerableDriverBlocklistEnable”=dword:00000000
...

Changing the registry key and rebooting resulted in working Thaiphoon Burner.

Having some doubts about how the system drive is partitioned.

I've seen that EFI partition in Minitool Partition Wizard is usually marked as "Active & System".

Mine is:

Why i'm concerned - I have been having boot issues after some Windows 11 updates and some programs seem to have difficulties with current partitioning.

So - how to set EFI partition to " Active & System " and " C:\ " partition to "boot" only?

Why I want it set correct is that I'm having some issues with couple of things. Like Thaiphoon Burner and one other... very specific, but I had them working before another session of fixing boot issues I had to make.

Don't get what you mean? That is the correct partition layout.

The efi partition contains the bootloader, the recovery partition contains windows recovery environment. These two partitions have no affect on how software is installed to the c partition.

My C:\ partition is marked as  "system & boot"

My EFI partition is marked as  "active"

Every other Minitool Partition Wizard partition is

C:\ - "boot"

EFI partition "active & system"

So, I'm not sure if this is an indicator, but there are some booting problems persistant. One of which is the inability to read SPD EEPROM with Thaiphoon Burner, and then there's the strange issue of not all folders that should be shown in "This PC" are present. Strangely specific issues, but I had them fixed before I had to again manually fix boot issues by "bootrec, bootsect & Bcdboot" commands in command line after booting from Windows 11 install USB.

It's strangely specific though - not sure if anyone can actually diagnose the real issue. The only difference I see is the Partitioning Wizard partition markings (active & system & boot).

Clutching to straws I guess.

After checking with bootable USB OS-es:

Bootable USB GPT 11 - Thaiphoon Burner does not allow to read SPD EEPROM

Bootable USB MBR 10 - Thaiphoon Burner works as it should.

So - is it some BIOS setting I might have missed?

I think you have to start windows in test mode: What Is Test Mode? How to Enable or Disable It in Windows 10/11? (minitool.com)

I think the problem is, that Thaiphoon Burner does not have a signed driver trusted by microsoft.

Thanks for a good idea, but still the same errors.
