I5 1300kf and 4 slots of ddr4

Clock doesn't add up like that, only capacity. Each DIMM will still run the same clock (1600Mhz for 3200MT/s DDR4).

Other details: hi I would like to buy a custom pre built pc from pc specialist. I'm wondering if I were to have 4 slots of 3200Mhz of ddr4 ram, will it add to 12800 in total or...

also some advice to my build will be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Do you know if I will lose any performance if I were to go for 2 slots of 3200Mhz 16gb ram instead to save some money?

Probably not, as long as you are just gaming. Workloads that need more ram will suffer in performance, like videoediting

To answer the question, as far as I know there's no performance hit on Intel systems. I did see something about AMD 5000 series performing better with 4 DIMMs in some tasks but I didn't dig into that at all. If you were trying to run a really fast kit it'd actually be an improvement, 2 DIMMs = less load on the CPU's IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) which usually lets you get higher clocks stable. Tis why some overclocking boards just remove the extra RAM slots to begin with.

Im assuming you are talking about 4x 8GB vs 2x 16GB

There should be no difference at all. here is an overly complicated explination of why if you want to know why:

RAM can be in dual channel or single channel, and dual channel is faster, but within that you also have dual rank or single rank RAM sticks. Having 2 ranks per channel (and 2 channels) is the fastest possible RAM configuration so if you have 2 sticks of sigle rank RAM that gives you 1 rank per channel which would be slower than 4 sticks of single channel RAM which gives you 2 ranks per channel. This is why you might hear that 4 sticks of RAM is faster, however almost all RAM sticks that are 16GB or above are dual rank meaning that they behave like 2 seperate sticks giving you 2 ranks per channel with just 2 sticks of RAM. Having more than 2 ranks per channel also dosent offer any performance boost so 4 sticks of dual rank is just as good as 2 sticks of dual rank or 4 sticks of single rank.

 

If you meant 2x 8GB vs 2x 16GB then the extra RAM capacity of 2x 16GB would improve performance in some applications, howerver for most games 16GB total (2x 8GB) is pleanty.

software like blender can make use of 32GB or RAM depending on what you are doing with it, you wont have any problems with just 16GB but getting 32GB wouldnt be a bad idea

With this, I meant using 16gb vs 32gb, as that was part of a previous question
