So my mum has a WD my book drive, and when i plug it in, windows makes the noise confirming that it is definitely there but it doesnt com up on computer. I have gone through devie management to see if it is there, and again its there and i have even gone to disk management and again, it shows that the drive is there and that it has things on it, but i cant access it. It has been used on a mac (i know, wasn't my choice) for the first part of its life, and it is still recognized by the mac. I have looked on the internet and cant seem to fix the problem. I have tried other My book drives that she has and they dont seem to recognize either. I tried my work USB and it worked just fine along with a range of my other usb's but the mass storage devices dont seem to want to work properly.

what file system is it running? if you used a Mac it's possible that it runs the Mac OS Extended file system in which case windows cannot read it without drivers

USBs tend to be formatted to exFAT which is recognizable by Windows

use the finder to navigate to the hdd, right click, pick information and look at what the 'format' is telling.

look for HFSExplorer, a small program, to read data from Mac OS Extended file systems, it's not possible to read from it though. MacDrive makes it possible to read and write, but it costs like 60 dollars per computer. If you format it in windows you run into similar problems, Macs can read NTFS but writing isn't possible, as far as i know...

still, give me the file system please. If it's accessible from the Mac it HAS something to do with it. And try out HFSExplorer, not macdrive and don't skip a step, you have to figure out what's wrong before trying to find a solution.
