I currently picked up my build from a local tech place and they forgot to give me the cord that plugs into the back of psu from the wall. They are currently closed next few days so sadly i'm sol until then. My question is if i have a old one laying around will it work? I mainly ask because I hear that it's a bad to mix them seeing that the on i have is from a 1,000 watt and the new one is 1,200 plus completely different brands.

The cord going from the power supply to the wall should be standardized. You shouldn't mix internal cables from different (modular) power supplies.

the external powercord does not matter.. it's the internal cables that matters. never swap those.

altho.. some external powercords are different with a fatter socket often used in datacenter for 32A powerdraw.

the cord plugs in fine just didn't realize it was just the internal ones that you don't wanna swap and not the not other one

the only thing that realy matter for the external cord now is what country you are in and what socket you use.

they are all either 240V or 110V...

depending on powerdraw like EVGA supernova 1600 uses the bigger socket.. i had a 1000W PSU for a Dell XPS 700 that needed the big socket too. I have also used that on PDU's(multi sockets in dataracks) and Blade server powers in datacenters.  for these you need to check if the fuse are powerful enough. but for homeuse standardfuses should do.

Most of the rest are small and can be used in about any electric appliance.

you get some that have 90degree bends for special use.. often with sewing machines and printers.

some Cisco switches have special grooves in them so you can only buy them expencive from cisco if you loose them.

you also have mickey mouse jacks mostly used on laptops.

All of these are grounded cables.

undgrounded cables, has been used in small radio's, razor machines etc.. are smaller and thinner.

Some cords are lower gauge than others. For example a 450w PSU uses a thinner wall cable than an 850w PSU.  But they're all standard for the plugs.

The cords off your printer, subwoofer, etc are all the same.  Just use any, unless you have a very large draw PSU.
