New Motherboards

recently, i've noticed that the "newer" releases on some of the main channel motherboards are not "standard" mATX/ATX sizing.

previously a mATX had 8 mounting locations to secure the motherboard into the case:

now some only have 6 mounting positions:

and same goes for the ATX versions. going from 9-points of attaching to only

6-points.

is this a "space-saving" idea or cost-cutting move?

There are even narrower ones, it's saving costs.

I counted 7 mounting points on the gigabyte board.

still messed up.. as most of the case mannies don't have the 'newer"

mounts in their case formats. kinda makes for some new experiences

and rather surprising "uh-oh" moments. so i'd get ready for the questions

in the threads on "where are all my mounts for this new mobo?" or

"i snapped my motherboard plugging in the PSU 24-pin harness" or

other startling questions..

That board is weird. It has 8 mounting spots, but the two on the top/bottom right corners aren't reinforced (which are standard matx positions), and are ridiculously close to the "reinforced" mounting spots.

Many budget mobos do have that 8880_m.jpg
