i have been watching a lot of videos and running benchmarks along side them with same settings @1080p and i cant figure out why the gpu usage is higher on the 4090 then my 4080 running the same test . i have a i5 9600k oc 5ghz and 4080 FE oc 3000mhz. GPU usage in most cases are like the 4090 is running almost 20% more load than my 4080. i cant figure out why systems are  utilizes more gpu to help frames you would think we would be the opposite .

GPU usage in things that require CPU would be depending on the CPU, such as games, benchmarks that are both for CPU and GPU.

You can't compare 4090+13900K with 4080+9600K at all. The CPUs are worlds apart, literally.

13900k is 5.37x faster than 9600K.

You're CPU bottlenecked, there's no way a 9600K would be able to keep up with a 4080 on everything, light or very GPU intensive yet not CPU intensive games MAYBE OK, just a maybe.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

GPU usage on 4090 with much better CPU is higher because you're being CPU bound at 1080p with your CPU which means you can't utilize either of those cards fully at the resolution/settings/game you're playing.

That's not how it works. Unless you limit the frame rate (e.g. V-Sync on a 60 Hz monitor) a GPU will always try to run as fast as it can.

 

To do that, it needs to be fed with data to work on. That job is done by the CPU. If the CPU isn't fast enough to run the game's code and also send draw calls to the GPU (in a timely fashion), then the GPU can't run at full speed. That's commonly known as a CPU bottleneck. Once the CPU is fast enough to do both, the GPU will run as close to 100% load as it can to pump out as many fps as possible. To reduce GPU load in this case you'd need to limit its frame rate.

 

In your case the CPU isn't fast enough. Which means the GPU is starved for things to work on, so it can't run at 100% load. You'd need a faster CPU to increase GPU load and hence frame rate.
