Do Coax to Ethernet adapters work?

Hey guys, 


Has anyone had experience with a coax to ethernet adapter? Are they reliable? My house has ethernet and coax wired to most rooms in my house, but of course my office only has coax and no ethernet wired there. Anyways Im sick of looking at an ethernet cable running from my office to the laundry room where all the home network stuff is at and thought maybe using a coax adapter could be a good alternative. The adapter I'm looking at is the "ScreenBeam MoCA 2.5".

Yeah, they work great in my experience. Certainly better than powerline if you have coax available to you. Make sure any splitters, amps, or couplers are MoCA rated (i.e. >1GHz).

 

EDIT: if this is going to be the only link in your MoCA system, I would grab the MoCA 2.0 starter set (2 pack) which is currently 46% off (making it cheaper than one 2.5 adapter). MoCA 2.5 only becomes useful when you have >2 endpoints (or actually want 2.5G speed, but then you need the 2.5G ethernet adapter version).

Yes they work (very well in fact), but you need at least two of them. The only thing that MoCA 2/2.5 is incompatible with is satellite TV on the same coax system, they both use frequencies between 1000MHz and 2500MHz.

Ya the 2.5 is overkill. Do you notice any additional latency with them? This would be wired to my gaming pc.

No satellite TV so I'm good there. Do you notice any additional latency?

I haven’t measured the LAN latency but any impact from them is not noticeable for PS and XBOX gaming - I don’t have a PC or AP connected to my MoCA.

Likewise, I never noticed any appreciable differences in latency (though I never really did anything that sensitive).
