how to tell if msi boards are compatible with cpu ?

looking at MSI's web site for the MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK and the MSI MPG x570 GAMING PLUS the cpu support list doesn't tell me wat bios revisions will work with my cpu like asrock or gigabytes websites do 

i have a ryzen 5 5600g and am looking for a compatible board but the board i want is always out of stock so i am looking for a substitute and found the boards listed above 

i want it to work out of the box or at least have a bios flash but would prefer not to have to flash it if i don't have too

Look at the motherboard box or advertising it usually says the latest CPU series they support out of the box and with the b550 tomahawk it's 3rd gen ryzen so you will need to update it. Nonetheless that shouldn't be a problem since most MSI motherboards including the one you listed have the bios flash button so you can flash the bios with no GPU, CPU or ram installed, just power is required. I've done it myself on my b450 tomahawk max to be able to install my ryzen 5 5600.

The "Result" column tells you the first BIOS version that supports a specific CPU. For example the 5600g is supported since 7C91vA7.zip on the B550 Tomahawk.

Both say they support the 5000 series and G series. Also, they both have BIOS flashback.
