Ryzen 5 3600 or 5600?

Go to solution Solved by AndreiArgeanu,

Assumming you have a compatible motherboard I'd go for the 5600. Even with a card like the RTX 3060. Here you can see the difference between the 5600 and 3600 using an RX 6600XT which should be similar to your card. There's also a video from hardware unboxed that compares them head to head in gaming if you want to look at it.

Looking for a new CPU to pair with my RTX 3060 and i can't decide between the two, as i've looked at a ton of benchmarks and they show very similar performance in alot of games...is it worth the extra 50 dollars to go 5th gen?

If you were upgrading from a 3600 to 5600 then no, certainly not if your games are not cpu intensive and yes a lot of games will have similar performance but then there are quite a few where the 5600 performs a hell of a lot better. however as you are buying one or the other then go for the 5600.

I have a 1600af currently and am in dire need of something that actually can use my 3060 to its full potential...so i may go 5600 just for that extra performance in more things, plus support for more features...

Don't know what mobo you have? be sure it is ready to run the 5600 if not update the bios for the chip

My mobo is 5000 series ready, so it'll have no issues

I did take a look at that video and going from my 1600af to a 5600 will be a massive leap
