Recently my psu died and I have replaced it with a new one (650w), installed it but when i tried to start not even a post message. Unplugging the gpu 8 pin makes it work perfectly but i don't have a gpu capable of anything other than MS paint. What could be the problem

A common mistake is plugging your display to the motherboard's video output. When you have a graphics card you must make sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card directly, and not to the motherboard's video output (typically HDMI nowadays, but can be DisplayPort or, if it's relatively old, VGA).

Depending on you level of expertise this can sound like a rookie mistake, but I've seen it many times and even done it myself once by accident.

To help people help you beyond that, I suggest listing your hardware. Motherboard model and graphics card model most importantly, but also CPU and PSU information while you're at it, in case it becomes relevant.

Welcome to the forums.

The specs are:

xeon x5660 on a asus rampage 2 extreme

24gb ddr3 ram

xfx rx 580 4gb

and a serioux solas 650w psu

Power supplies are notorious for taking other parts with them when they die.

Are you able to test with another graphics card, or yet another power supply?

i have another gpu i tested with and it works but i'm trying to find a way to fix it as it seems to still have a little bit of life in it. it gets detected in ddu but not in device manager and it uses the power from the pci-e slot so it might still be possible to revive it

I have never heard of that psu, current psu or the psu that just died?

If its the one that just died whats your current psu?

X58 is very power hungry so yea you dont really wanna be using a weaker psu, i assume overclocked cause x58 performs like shit stock, especially when you got a rampage ii

I'd try with a larger power supply, think like 750 or 850W.

X58 loves to have electricity, I wonder if your 650W PSU just can't run everything.

Especially plausible if its one of those trash multi rail psus, my 450w (effective 360w cause 30a 12v rail) can handle oced x58 but i can only take it so far, and thats with a 9500gt as a display card

If its an actually decent single rail i dont see why it wouldnt work

it was overclocked but my previous psu ran just fine and it was 600w (effective 550w on the 12v rail), i went back to stock clocks and still nothing
