ATH-M50x, Custom One Pro, or any other decent headphones

I highly suggest the k612's. Also refurbished units are mostly customer returns that are pretty much brand new. That and most headphones over $150 have good enough build quality to last forever if you don't beat on them.

After about 1.5 years using a sony playstation headset for gaming, I've decided that I need an upgrade.

I've been debating between the Custom One Pros and ATH-M50x for some time while also looking at sennheiser 558s. I'm really looking for a pair of headphones that have a good build, are somewhat portable (really would like folding) and, most importantly, will have killer sound quality. I live in Canada, and I absolutely cannot spend more than $200 CAD incl shipping, and would really like to spend less. I'm not partial to any brands, but don't want to buy from a brand that dosen't have some backing. I'll be gaming with the headphones, and while I will mainly listen to EDM/Dubstep most of the time, I do enjoy some (older?) songs from bands like the Beatles, Donovan, etc. I really need a removable cable after all the headphones I've killed by breaking the cables. I don't have a dac/amp/sound card and will be using the onboard audio on my ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe as well as on my phone.

I really love my ATH-M50's, my vote is for m50x.

M50x is probably your best bet

I was looking at that, but the price for the mic is insane ($70 for a mic!!). I'll probably be getting an antlion modmic later on for any headphones I grab.

You're looking at the US Amazon and the 32 ohm is not as good as the others. I hear they sound a bit worse.

thats why you buy the m50s and not the m50x, they charge you like $80 for detachable cables thats it. everything else is the same

I don't want to lose my warranty. The massdrop also costs me ~$100 US + $25 Shipping 10% exchange + 15% Tax and whatever other duty charges the shipping company decides to hit me with.

M50's are literally garbage for gaming. COP's are better, but not folding. Shure SRH440 with 840 pads is better than M50s for pretty much anything.

Someone surprised me and ordered me a pair of ATH-M50x. They've already shipped, so there's no backing out and I'm sure they'll beat using earbuds for gaming.

It's the horrible Canadian dollar and ridiculous tax rate that pushes the price up on anything.

A quick search shows a like new pair of AKG K612's for a LOT less. IMHO much better headphones as well.

By the time I ship them back to amazon I'll have lost another $40. The AKG K612 end out costing a bit more after import fees anyways. Pretty much locked in at this point.

Hmm...Amazon's policies are a lot different from ours in the states. Returning something to amazon here is easy and free. I'm assuming you are importing them from the states? And as far as I know, you can cancel the order before they charge your card.

It's free on amazon's side, it's just shipping them back that costs a bunch. I bought them from amazon.ca, and they ship from the other side of the country. They've already charged my card :(
