Good morning! I have a case with generic 120mm rgb molex fans. Exhaust is working fine, front top is not (ran out of molex) both fans below it has different rpms don't know why but I'm replacing those with Artic pwm fans.

When i play RE2 remake highest settings 1080p the gpu junction temp reaches 70-80 degrees and on Days Gone it reaches 80-90 degrees, the gpu is so hot to the touch. What I did now is removed the glass panel and placed the rechargeable fan on the gpu, the gpu junction temp went down significantly! Highest is 65 degrees on RE2 remake! And on Days Gone is 80+ degrees.

Now my question is how do i replicate that cooling with 120mm fans? The battery fan is not even that powerful, my guess it's equivalent to two-three 120mm fans.

I will also invest fans below the gpu where the 2.5 hdds are shown and another two as exhaust on top (underneath gary). Will that make a significant drop in junction temp?

Thank you in advance!

Btw: Gpu is Rx 5500XT

Is your case mesh front or horrid solid front panel? With solid front you have no airflow and garbage temps

This is the case, is has glass panel but with intakes on it's left and right. Brand name is Keytech T1000.

As long as your junction temp is below 100°C there's nothing to worry about i think.
afaik Nvidia 10 Series still uses GPU temp and not GPU junction temp to control clockspeed and power draw.

70-80 is totally normal for junction temp

edit: the glass front panel seems like a bad idea. i'd be damned if that doesnt restrict airflow

I'm worried about it reaching 90. It's like you can fry an egg.

Adding fans under the gpu wont do anything as there isnt any fresh air to get there usually.

Is your case a closed front one? If so the only fix is removing the solid front pabel or getting a proper mesh front case

Kind of close but with mesh on it's sides.

my bad, read 1080p as RTX 1080 😄
with the 5500XT it should use junction temp for throttle if it gets too hot. but from a quick search that value seems to be at 110°C junction temp.
So anything below that shouldn't result in thermal throttle.

if you can remove the front glass panel maybe try that out and compare the temps if you still want it to go lower.

The battery fan works because it's exchanging the air in the case so it's not significantly hotter inside the PC than in the rest of the room. It sounds like that isn't happening when you've got the case closed up.

If I had to guess, your case doesn't have enough intake airflow, or your intake fans don't generate enough static pressure to pull air through the front panel.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Oh i see 😄

Yes, I was thinking about removing the glass panel. Thank u 🙂

The front panel is glass but has mesh on both sides, but I guess it's not enough, I will also add two exhaust fans on top.

I mean those intakes barely count. Seen multiple cases like that always an issue.

You can remove the front panel and you'll see a decent drop in temps.

Adding more fans wont help as there simply isnt enough intake for the air from the front so what will happen is it will start coming from wherever it can and usually thats not gonna pass by thr components you want to cool. So likelt adding e more fans will do exactly nothing

Thanks man. I will try to remove that front glass panel and if budget permits replace it with a perforated metal sheet.

Cheap mesh cases also exist.

Youbdont need the front at all unless the io ports are connected to it.

If you leave it facing the wall like that, just leave the glass off. Give it a couple centimeters for airflow though, don't place it right up against the wall.

Have you tried remounting the fans so they are more recessed inside of the case so that it's not as close to glass panel? This could allow the fans to pull more air from the sides. It may be worth trying for an easier solution.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X   Motherboard: MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi   Case: Deepcool Maxtrexx 70   GPU: RTX 3090   RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 3x16GB 3200 MHz   PSU: Super Flower 850W

I haven't. It's possible for the 2 on top but it will hit the sata cables for the drive. Yes, good observation 🙂

Your case is culprit. My friend has exactly the same problem. He bought this stupid glass front case and even though there are 3 fans running front, he still had horrible temps. As soon as he opened the side panel of case, temps went down to normal just like in your case. Problem is this awful glass front panel. You have 2 options now: Either leave your case without a side panel like my friend has, either change your case and by a better one with mesh front (NOT GLASS).

Wow, this case suck, i traded my old A6 bundle with mobo and ram for this as i am tight on budget. I'll try to remove the front glass panel and replace it with a mesh type plastic sheet or a perforated metal sheet.
