3770K or 3820

Which one is the best to go with, the 3770K (with Maximus V Formula?) or the 3820 (with Rampage IV Extreme?)?

3770k hands down, you can overclock it, otherwise they are almost the same

i don't even know why there is a 3820 :D but for gaming a 3570k will do fine.

3820 with Rampage IV Extreme hands down. It is not the flagship processor so you can have upgrade options and the 3820 does overclock. Also Ivy Bridge-E is coming out for it. LGA1155 is being replaced by LGA1150, so go with the more high end upgradeable option. I love my Rampage IV Extreme and hopefully you can get that 3820 past 4.7ghz (check PCWizKid's video on YT).

I know, but maybe later I can buy a 3930K or better, there is nothing better than the 3770K so...

I think they added a 3820 for the people who didn't have enough money to go for X79 (like me)

3770k wipes the floor with the 3820, while costing less for both the mobo and cpu.

3820 is really equivalent with the 2500k. I know I've been researching it for about a year and a half now. The 3820 was a flop, and was purely designed for people who wanted more ram over performance. Also, the 3820 has more lanes than sandy, but that problem was semi alleviated by ivy.

Don't listen to people who tell you to get the 3820. That is a fail cpu on all accounts. You would have to get that thing to 5ghz just to match a 4.5ghz 3770k.

So there is no reason to pay more for less performance in the off chance you will upgrade it one day. That is a fail strategy.

yes but you didnt really said anything about the future :P if you plan to upgrade later then go for 3820, im just saying that straight up, 3770k vs 3820 the 3770k wins every time

not really just because of hyper-threading, rendering the 3820 is way better than the 2500k

3820 is actually quite literally more or less the 3770K. It will sometimes perform better, sometimes not, but the difference is not by large margins. This could also be caused by FRAPS, which takes some CPU load. Here is a video Logan made on it:

I'd suggest no, do not upgrade yet. You can survive a couple months with the 3820. Decide whether or not the 3820 fits your needs, and if you feel the need to upgrade, sell/return the 3820, and get a cheaper 3930K once Ivy-Bridge-E comes out.

Wrong wrong wrong.

3820 gets its ass kicked by 3770 at everything. I don't know what planet you've been living on, but that is just wrong.

Do not get the 3820. That is the worst advice anyone could give mid 2013.

3770K does not win every time. 3820 has better physics score, and is about neck and neck in other benchmarks. Also, Rampage IV Extreme=8 DIMM slots=64GB RAM. On the other hand, 3770K motherboards max out at 4 DIMM slots.

Can you at least provide a logical argument? You're basically saying this CPU is better than the other because I'm right and you're wrong! RaVenBelgium wants our opinions, so there isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' answer. He will decide what he will get based on what he thinks after he has heard our opinions. And no, It's not the worst advice as he plans to upgrade. Like I said, but probably didn't read, LGA1155 is getting replaced by LGA1150 which means no more new LGA1155 CPUs are coming out for it. I recommended it over the 3770K because the platform was better and not necessarily the CPU. LGA2011 beats LGA1155 in most areas, especially upgradeability, features, and performance.

I don't have a 3820 and you just edited that after I said what I said. Plus the 3820 does not get its 'ass kicked' just because it loses by a small margin. Those are not even all of the benchmarks. How about gaming? Like I said they are about neck and neck.

you are right, didnt take the ram into consideration and didnt know about the physics scores, i say he should save up and wait for a 4930k or whatever its gonna be called if he can otherwise save up for 3930k, if he plans to upgrade why should he blow 350$ on the 3820

Okok, keep it cool. No reason to get into a fight, I'm just asking advice here  ;)

I think that if I now have to chose between 3770K and 3820, I better take the 3770K 'cuz it owns the 3820 at almost everything, right?

Exactly my point. Also the 4770K will not work with the Maximus V, because there are no more CPUs bound to come out for LGA1155. The guy tried to make me look like an idiot by posting benchmarks after I had posted my opinion. That's why the 'last edited on' option should always be on.
