Several things could be indicators:

1) FPS drops

2) Blue Screens

3) Artifacts on the screen

4) Games crashing.

These are just indicators that it *MAY* be dying, but may also just other correctable issues.

Most of the time they don't completely die.  You will just get crashes and glitches.  Sometimes reducing clock or memory speed helps, other times it doesn't.

There can sometimes be warning signs like minor artifacting, random crashing, and things like that, but for the most part in my experience GPUs will work until they don't.

As for avoiding it, again there's not really much you can do. You can monitor VRM temps if your card has user readable temp sensors for them to make sure the card doesn't have a power failure (as long as these are below 100C you're fine). You can do the same with the memory temp (optimal temps depend on the specific card), but that's about it. Also it should go without saying to avoid the XOC end of GPU OC, but standard overclocking (modifying V/F curves and core clock offsets) don't really affect the lifespan of the card.

You can't really correct that, other than hoping you've got a corrupt game/file, or you have a bad cable. If your gpu is artifacting, it's pretty well good as gone. It probably makes more sense both financially and time-wise to purchase a new card, as the amount of knowledge, skill, and micro soldering equipment needed to repair a dead gpu (which might not necessarily work despite your efforts) isn't worth it.

Depends what's causing it.  If the drivers didn't install cleanly.  A clean uninstall and reinstall can resolve it.

If it's due to heat, cleaning the gpu and doing a repaste can fix it.

Not necessarily, no. It's just really a shot in the dark. It's pretty rare for them to crap out and die till they're really old. If it's overclocked or you mess with the voltage, in which case it might die a little faster. But as far as I know there's really no difference between highend and lowend, assuming you go with a brand that's not  amazon/aliexpress/ebay fake knockoff junk
